Peter has extensive experience of leading primary & secondary school and academy inspections. He has considerable experience as a senior leader in secondary schools. As such he was a serving practitioner working for Ofsted as an additional inspector and was later seconded to Ofsted full time. He then joined CfBT, Ofsted’s inspection service provider in the north as Senior Managing Inspector, with special responsibility for schools causing concern in the primary and secondary phases. His particular expertise is in school improvement and leadership and management.
In September 2011 Peter became an independent consultant and continued to work as a lead inspector for Ofsted. He has led conferences and training on school improvement, including themes such as, inspection frameworks, leadership and management, teaching and learning and school governance. He works with several governing bodies and Trusts as an external adviser for the headteacher’s performance management. Peter works with many primary and secondary schools, single academies, Multi Academy Trusts and UTCs, as their external improvement partner. Peter was one of three Education Advisers for Birmingham City Council.
Peter has been a Lead Inspector for the Independent Schools Inspectorate and an Education Adviser for the Department of Education’s Academy Performance and Brokerage Division since 2012. Peter worked directly with Sir David Carter in his National Sponsors Unit providing school improvement advice for Oasis Community Learning, one of nine major national Multi Academy Trusts in England that includes primary, secondary and all through academies. Peter is on the DfEs Register of External Experts offering a range of expertise to Multi Academy Trusts and across all RSC regions.
He is currently the challenge partner (SIP) for several Multi Academy Trusts including, Reach South, Landau Forte, Core Education, Arden Trust, North West Academies Trust and Sola Fide Trust. He offers mentoring advice to headteachers, executive headteachers and new Chief Executive Officers of MATs.
He has been an associate vice principal of an outstanding MAT in the North East of England working across their two secondary academies, three primaries and a studio school. Until recently he was Interim Executive Principal and CEO of an 11-18 academy in the West Midlands. He is currently a Trustee and Vice Chair of a Multi Academy Trust in the North West of England and one in East Midlands, Chair of an Intervention Board for an academy in Birmingham and governor of an all through academy in Bradford.
Peter has qualified teacher status, NPQH and a Masters in Education Management.
